The date for licensed insurance carriers, surplus lines companies and health maintenance organizations to submit policy count data for 2015 is approaching.
Texas Department of Insurance is required by the state insurance code to provide consumers with complaint ratios. The ratios must represent the number of “justified, verified as accurate, and documented as valid” complaints received against a company, “expressed as a percentage of the total number of insurance policies written by the insurer and in force on December 31 of the preceding year.”
To satisfy this mandate for complaints received in 2015, TDI requires companies to report the number of policies in force as of Dec. 31, 2015. The filing is due no later than March 1, 2016.
Each company licensed in Texas as of Dec. 31, 2015, must submit a separate filing. TDI is sending a separate notice to each licensed company and to each surplus lines carrier eligible to do business in Texas.
