Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance Jim Donelon says some East Feliciana Parish residents will see a drop in fire insurance rates.
WAFB-TV reports homeowners living in Jackson, outside of Jackson corporate limits, and Wilson, outside of the Wilson corporate limits, can expect significant reductions in their fire insurance premiums. The reduced rates are set to take effect July 6.
The reduced rates are a result of improvements in fire protection ratings in those two cities from a Class 5 to a Class 4.
The amount of the rate reduction will vary by homeowner. The rate will depend on the value of the property, the fire district where the home is located and the rate schedule of the company insuring the company.
