The Leonville Fire Department in Louisiana is overseeing distribution of free smoke detectors to local residents.
Bobby Degueyter, chief of the Leonville Volunteer Fire Department, tells The Daily World that the department started with 50 detectors but can request more for residents of the St. Landry Parish community when that supply is exhausted.
He said the smoke detectors are being made available through the state fire marshal’s office.
