Firefighters struggled on April 10 to bring a massive wildfire in the Fort Davis, Texas-area under control. The fire has burned more than 25,600 acres and destroyed an estimated 50 homes.
The Fort Davis fire spread from Presidio to Jeff Davis counties on the previous day. Volunteer firefighter Jim Fowler called the blaze the worst he has seen in 13 years.
Also April 9, a huge blaze scorching largely rural Stonewall, King and Knox counties was the largest in the nation, spanning up to 125 square miles, officials said.
That fire had been burning since April 6, when it was sparked by pipe cutting.
It’s estimated that between 70,000 and 80,000 acres have burned, and firefighters were bracing for the possibility the situation could worsen because of dry, windy conditions.
