Personal information of about 500 current and former city workers in Beaumont, Texas, accidentally was posted online on Jan. 14. The data involves people who had filed workers’ compensation claims in the past five years
The information, including birth dates and Social Security numbers, was put on the city’s Web site around midday. Beaumont City Manager Kyle Hayes says the information was removed the following morning.
KBMT-TV reported that it obtained a copy of the letter sent to the affected individuals. The letter says the incident happened as Beaumont sought proposals for a third-party administrator for the claims.
City Attorney Tyrone Cooper says the incident is under investigation and Beaumont officials are working on “damage control.”
