Local officials and insurance adjusters in Mannford, Okla., are assessing widespread damage from a June 1 hailstorm that pounded more than 1,000 homes and vehicles.
City Manager Mike Nunneley said every home – about 1,100 of them in this city of nearly 2,000 people – sustained some damage from the hail, which ranged in size from golf balls to tennis balls.
The city manager said about 600 homes had windows broken out by the hail, and every home sustained roof damage.
Between 1,000 and 1,500 vehicles also had damage, most having front and rear windows blown out by the hail or holes punched through the glass.
Two injuries were reported as a result of the storm.
Creek County Commissioner Johnny Burke, whose district covers Mannford, said the damage was staggering.
“I know one guy who told me the hail pounded the roof of his pickup so hard that the (cab’s) corner posts were sticking up in the air higher than the roof,” Burke said.
