Typically, homeowners insurance policies do not cover flooding. Coverage for damage caused by rising waters must be obtained from the National Flood Insurance Program (www.floodsmart.gov). Your insurance agent can offer you more information about flood insurance.
Flood damage to a vehicle may be covered by your auto insurance if the policy has comprehensive (“other than collision”) coverage.
Consumers who have had a loss from the recent flooding should contact their insurance company or agent to file a claim.
