The Arkansas Department of Insurance has issued a rule that establishes standards for developing and protecting customer information, Rule and Regulation 77-Standards for Safeguarding Customer Information.
It was drafted in compliance with the federally mandated Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which was passed by Congress in 1999 and requires states to develop safeguards to protect nonpublic personal, nonpublic personal financial, and personal health information about customers that may be submitted on insurance applications.
Commissioner Mike Pickens said the new rule adds privacy protection and “strengthens the privacy laws already in place for Arkansans.”
