Nancy Bewlay will become American International Group’s new global chief underwriting officer in the insurer’s latest development at top leadership.

Bewlay, who was most recently group chief underwriting and pricing officer at AXA Group since 2023, will start her new role with AIG on Sept. 8. She will report to Eric Anderson, president and CEO, and she will join the executive leadership team.
Anderson officially became president and CEO on June 1, succeeding Peter Zaffino, who has moved to executive chair of the company’s board of directors. AIG previously announced the succession plan in January.
AIG said Bewlay will oversee AIG’s underwriting strategy, including advancing underwriting management best practices and AIG’s focus on underwriting excellence and discipline.
Bewlay will take over for Christopher Flatt, who was moved from head of AIG North America alternative channels to the role of global CUO at the start of 2025. Flatt had also once occupied the position of interim CEO of managing general underwriter Private Client Select Insurance Services. He was recently succeeded by Ross Bowie. AIG with Stone Point Capital in 2023 formed Private Client Select Insurance Services, serving the high net worth and ultra high net worth market.
Bewlay at At AXA built the Group Underwriting Office and led technical underwriting, pricing, claims, and reinsurance strategy. Before AXA, Bewlay held senior leadership roles at Swiss Re, C.V. Starr, and General Star Management Company.
