W.R. Berkley Corp. announced the formation of Berkley Construction Solutions to provide excess liability insurance for contractors throughout the construction industry.
Andrew Robinson has been named president of the new business, effective immediately. He is based in Newton, Mass.
Robinson brings nearly 40 years of experience in the property/casualty insurance industry to Berkley, with a focus on construction. Since 2006 he has been with Starr Companies where he most recently served as the senior vice president of primary and excess construction. Prior to Starr, he was with American International Group for 13 years and, before that, Marsh for six. He began his insurance career at Travelers in 2003.
“The formation of this new business is a continuation of our efforts to enhance our participation in emerging and dynamic parts of the economy, by bringing talent and expertise to various specialty industries,” commented Robert Berkley, Jr., president and chief executive officer of W. R. Berkley. “Construction is a very important industry focus for Berkley.”
W.R. Berkley Corp. reported a nearly 24 percent increase in net premiums written during the 2021 third quarter. Average rate increases surpassed 10% for nearly every line except workers’ compensation.
The Connecticut-based specialty insurer and reinsurer generated nearly $261.3 million in net income through the quarter, compared to almost $151.7 million the previous year.
