The Allstate Corp. said it has acquired iCracked, a provider of on-site, on-demand repair services for smartphones and tablets in North America. The privately held San Francisco-based company will join SquareTrade, a company Allstate purchased in 2019 for $1.4 billion that offers consumer protection plans and tech support.
ICracked operates in 60-plus metropolitan areas in the U.S. and Canada. Terms wee not disclosed.
“Today’s consumers rely on connectivity to run their lives, and they can’t afford to wait for device repairs,” said Ahmed Khaishgi, president and co-founder of SquareTrade.
He said this deal along with its recent acquisition of technology services provider PlumChoice positions SquareTrade to protect both the hardware and software of connected devices.
Retailers and manufacturers often include tech support, claims and repair plans like these with their products.
