Nearly 500,000 smoke detectors are being recalled by the manufacturer, KIdde.
Kidde has due to a defect, according to a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPC) in a bulletin.
About 452,000 of the units were sold in the U.S. and another 40,000 in Canada from September 2016 through this January for $20 to $40. Model numbers can be found on the back of the units.
According to the CPSC alert, a yellow cap left on during the manufacturing process can cover one of the two smoke sensors and compromise the smoke alarm’s ability to detect smoke.
Last year Kidde recalled nearly 40 million fire extinguishers due to a design flaw.
