Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed Andrew Maher as senior underwriter, emerging risks, within its specialty and financial lines division. Maher’s focus will be on further development and expansion of the division’s cyber offering which will now be offered to U.S. domiciled risks, placed in the London and Lloyd’s market.
Reporting to head of Emerging Risks Scott Bailey, Maher will underwrite emerging risk across multiple business sizes, industries and territories. Predominantly he will write U.S. cyber and technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) risks, including both Lloyd’s and, less regularly, service-company accounts, according to the announcement.
Maher joins from Beazley, where he was underwriter on the technology and media team writing a broad portfolio of cyber risk.
Markel International said it has historically underwritten emerging risk on an international (ex USA) basis, but is now widening its geographical capabilities with the addition of U.S. domiciled and exposed risk capabilities. This will complement the business already written by Markel domestically in the U.S. and allow it to accommodate U.S. business which is placed in the London and Lloyd’s market.
