The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has hired a former Capitol Hill advisor as manager of International Relations. Eric Thompson will be responsible for coordinating state insurance regulators’ efforts on key international financial regulatory issues.
The NAIC International Relations staff provides support to state insurance regulators on the development and implementation of international regulatory principles, and facilitates regulatory dialogues and information sharing between supervisory bodies.
Thompson replaces George Brady, who was recently appointed Deputy Secretary General at the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).
Thompson was most recently advisor to the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, where served during negotiations and passage of Dodd-Frank financial service reform. He began his public sector career working for former U.S. Rep. Nancy Johnson, R.-Conn., where he served as chief of staff for seven years. His private sector experience includes serving as vice president of Federal Affairs for both Hartford Financial Services and APCO Worldwide.
