Main Street America Promotes Peeters to SVP

August 16, 2010

Steve Peeters has been promoted to senior vice president of The Main Street America Group. He will head super regional property/casualty insurance carrier’s product operations function in his new position.

Peeters joined the insurer in Feb. 2010 to lead its commercial lines business. He will lead the product operations unit in addition to staying head of commercial lines, and will continue to report to Main Street America chairman, president and CEO Tom Van Berkel. He will remain based at the company’s corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla. Main Street America’s product operations group includes assumed reinsurance, bonds, commercial lines, personal lines and pricing.

Peeters joined Main Street America in Feb. 2010 from Jacksonville-based Zurich Insurance Services, where he was president and chief operating officer. His property/casualty career, which began in 1982, also includes several executive roles at Zurich North America and Hartford Financial Services.

During the first six months of 2010, Main Street America generated $453 million in net written premiums, an 8.2 percent gain versus the same period in 2009, in part due to Peeters leadership, the company reported. Its commercial lines business, led by Peeters, posted an 88.5 combined ratio. Commercial lines accounts for 55 percent of the company’s total written premium.
