Charitable Group Plans to Honor Ex-AIG Head Greenberg

May 24, 2010

A major industry foundation is planning to recognize former AIG chief and current C.V. Starr CEO Maurice “Hank” Greenberg.

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) said it will present Greenberg with its “Double I Award” – for influence in the industry and impact in the community – at the foundation’s annual dinner later this year at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in New York City.

“Hank Greenberg has unprecedented influence in the industry, and his contributions through personal philanthropy and as chair of The Starr Foundation have had a major impact on the New York tri-state area,” said Michael P. Fujii, IICF chairman and president and chief executive officer of Worldwide Insurance Operations for Endurance Specialty Holdings.

Greenberg joined C. V. Starr & Co. as vice president in 1960 and was given the additional responsibilities of president of American Home Assurance Company in 1962. He was elected director of C. V. Starr & Co. in 1965, and chairman and CEO in 1968.

He served as CEO of AIG from 1967 until March 2005.
