Piles of snow and icy roads definitely were not what most Thanksgiving travelers wanted to deal with on their way home from the long holiday weekend. Meantime, tornadoes tore through several states damaging properties.
Hundreds of miles of major roadways were shut down Monday as a big snowstorm spread the white stuff across several states in the Plains. In eastern Colorado, western Kansas and Nebraska, six-foot drifts were reported.
The snow, which was felt all the way down to the Texas Panhandle, closed numerous schools and businesses. At least four deaths on the highways were tied to the bad weather.
Meantime, damage to more than 30 homes at Fort Riley, Kansas was reportedly the result of a tornado. High winds or tornadoes were also blamed for destroying more than half-a-dozen homes in Arkansas.
Winter’s official start is not until Dec. 21.
