J. Hyatt Brown, chairman and chief executive officer of ., of Daytona Beach, Fla., is the 2005 chairman of (CIAB).
Brown was elected chairman during a general membership meeting held at the 91st annual Insurance Leadership Forum at The Greenbrier. Brown succeeds Frederick J. de Grosz, president and chief executive officer of ABD Insurance and Financial Services, Inc., of Redwood City, Calif., as CIAB chairman.
Brown, a graduate of the University of Florida, joined Brown & Brown in 1959 and became president and CEO in 1961. He also has been active in politics and education. He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1972 and served as Speaker of the House from 1978 to 1980. In both 1977 and 1978, he was the recipient of the Allen Morris Award as the most effective member of the Florida House and the St. Petersburg Times Award as the most valuable member of the Florida House.
He served on the Florida Board of Regents from 1982-1989, and he was chairman of the Board of Trustees at Stetson University and remains a trustee.
