Beginning in June, The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. will begin providing agencies with the ability to complete applications and receive and accept binding insurance quotes in real time through their agency management systems.
“We’ve piloted the process with agents, using the new ACORD XML standards, and now we know it works,” said Joseph Z. Gauches, senior vice president of electronic marketing and commerce. “Our next step is to make it available to our agents on a widespread basis, which we’ll do as quickly as we can.”
The Mahoney Agency of Casa Grande, Ariz., The Hartford’s test agency, is currently using SEMCI technology based on ACORD XML standards to quote and issue commercial lines policies for small business.
Once other insurers make the process available, agents will be able to submit an application to participating carriers in a matter of minutes, Gauches said. “At that time agents will realize the true promise of real-time SEMCI.”
