The company, the No. 1 U.S. disability insurer, formed last year with the merger of UNUM Corp. and Provident Companies. First quarter operating profits for the Portland, Maine-based company fell to $134.6 million, down from $172.6 million in the same quarter last year.
Net profit rose to $134.5 million from $89.3 million last year, while first quarter revenue rose to $2.4 billion from $2.3 billion one year ago.
