The Missouri Department of Insurance announced that high school seniors and college students who are Missouri residents are eligible to apply for Missouri Insurance Education Foundation (MIEF) scholarships. The deadline is March 31.
Four, $1,500 scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors who will be full-time students in accredited Missouri colleges or universities and who plan to enroll in insurance, risk management or actuarial science courses. In addition, two $2,500 scholarships and five $2,000 scholarships are awarded to college juniors or seniors majoring in insurance or related courses in a Missouri college or university.
A new scholarship, named for C. Donald Ainsworth, a longtime insurance executive and a former director of the Missouri Department of Insurance, has been added. This $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified college student who is from the St. Louis-area and is majoring in insurance or a related field of study in a Missouri college or university.
Additionally, the $2,500 C. Lawrence Leggett Scholarship is awarded to a college junior or senior. Leggett was the longest-serving director of the Department of Insurance.
Additional instructions and applications for the scholarships are available on . MIEF was formed as a non-profit corporation in March 1991, to promote public insurance education. MIEF provides its services based solely upon contributions and proceeds of special events. The foundation is guided by an all-volunteer board of directors, which includes representatives from the insurance, legal, academic fields and from the general public.
