The village of Alsip, Ill., has settled a lawsuit alleging its mayor made unwanted sexual advances toward the Chicago suburb’s treasurer.
The Daily Southtown reports the village will pay former treasurer Elizabeth Gonzalez $120,000 to settle the lawsuit filed in October 2014. It alleged Mayor Patrick Kitching made unwanted sexual advances toward her.
The settlement, dated July 8, notes it’s not an admission “of any fault, wrongdoing or liability.” The $120,000 will be paid by the village’s insurance company.
Kitching did not return messages seeking comment.
In the lawsuit, Gonzalez alleged Kitching began making unwanted sexual advances toward her beginning in 2006. They included unwanted looks, unwanted physical contact and unwanted comments regarding her physical appearance.
The lawsuit contended the harassment ended in 2011, but Kitching was hostile toward her until the village dismissed her.
