North Dakota’s chief insurance regulator says his agency recovered or saved $3.4 million for the state’s citizens in 2015.
This number represents money recovered through the North Dakota’s Insurance Department’s hotline, through complaints filed by consumers against insurance companies and agents, and through department investigations, according to Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm.
It also includes benefits received through the Department’s Prescription Connection (PC) and State Health Insurance Counseling (SHIC) programs.
Also included in the report are statistics on fraud and consumer contacts. In 2015, the department received 189 fraud referrals, totaling $1,045,515.10 in actual losses. The department hotline handled 15,943 phone calls, helped 257 walk-in clients and processed 150 formal complaints. The department also handled 8,885 PC and SHIC contacts.
The complete 2015 Consumer Assistance, Enforcement Action and Fraud Report is posted below. It can also be found on the department’s website.
