Brown County is receiving more than $150,000 in grant funding to help install a new floodgate where Crow Creek meets the James River.
The American News in Aberdeen reports that Brown County has been planning for several years to replace the aging existing structure. Not all of the gates work properly and replacement parts aren’t available for the floodgate that is more than a century old.
The new floodgate is expected to cost about $300,000 and will be installed next year. Previously, the state approved a $120,000 grant for the project.
