Officials say several state forest campgrounds in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula that were closed during a recent wildfire are completely or partially reopened.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced that most of the recreational facilities in the area of the Duck Lake Fire are back open. A lightning strike started the 33-square-mile Duck Lake wildfire last month. It destroyed 136 structures, including homes, outbuildings and campers.
No injuries were reported.
The DNR says reopened areas include the Bodi Lake state forest campground and boat launch as well as the day-use area, bridge and boat launch at the Mouth of the Two Hearted River state forest campground. Tahquamenon Falls State Park also is open for visitors and campers.
Some areas remain closed.
