An Indiana town’s Fourth of July parade is marching forward after officials stepped up to ensure the event would go on.
The Lions Club usually provides liability insurance for the annual event in Walton but couldn’t afford the cost this year because membership is down. Any money raised is being used to repair a roof at the club’s offices in the town about 55 miles northwest of Muncie.
Town Council members looked into the insurance policy and decided to pick up the tab.
Council President Patrick Robison tells the Pharos-Tribune that members couldn’t imagine a Fourth of July without the parade.
Parade organizer Carol Woolever says she already has 50 units signed and expects more as the holiday approaches. Last year’s event had 176 entries.
