Many North Dakota medical providers who treat workplace injuries are having to wait for their bills to be paid.
North Dakota’s workers’ compensation agency says problems with a new computer software system are causing a payment backlog.
It was more than $15 million last month. Some providers were waiting four months to get paid.
Workforce Safety and Insurance deputy director Clare Carlson says the backlog is being reduced. The agency normally pays about 3,500 medical bills a week.
The software upgrade has been frequently delayed, and The Forum newspaper reports it should be finished by October.
WSI provides insurance for treatment of injuries on the job. North Dakota employers have to buy coverage, and workers give up their right to sue their employer if they’re hurt while working.
