A former North Dakota Democratic U.S. Senate candidate says he’s running instead for state insurance commissioner.
Tom Potter is a former finance instructor at the University of North Dakota. He now serves as a pastor at a Presbyterian church in Red Lake Falls, Minn.
Potter said he will seek the North Dakota Democratic endorsement to run for insurance commissioner. He’s the first Democratic candidate for the job.
North Dakota Democrats will endorse their preferred insurance commissioner candidate at the state party’s convention in Grand Forks this weekend.
The incumbent commissioner is Republican Adam Hamm. He is running for re-election. Hamm was appointed insurance commissioner in October 2007. He was elected to a four-year term in 2008.
