About 11,000 residents of Minot, N.D., have been ordered by city officials to evacuate, as the Souris River threatens to flood levees.
City Mayor Curt Zimbelman said the city is “working on building up the dikes around the city’s critical infrastructure; we are also working on plans to put up some secondary dikes in the outside fringe areas using Hesco barriers. Once we have the critical sites secured, we will start on these other areas trying to protect as many homes and businesses as possible. We will continue until the water pushes us out of the area.”
Shelters have been opened at two locations — the Minot Municipal Auditorium and the Minot State Dome. And the Souris Valley Humane Society is coordinating sheltering of pets.
