The Ohio Insurance Institute estimates that mid-April storms caused more than $123 million in damage across the state.
The industry group for property and casualty insurers said that wind, tornadoes and hail on April 19 and 20 led to about 8,100 claims representing $43 million in losses, with 90 percent of claims on homeowners and renters policies. Storms from April 22-28 led to an estimated 15,500 claims and $80 million in losses. The figures do not include flood-related damage.
Institute President Daniel Kelso says recent storm activity in the U.S. has been unusually harsh, with losses from April 22-28 storms nationwide estimated in the $3.7 billion to $5.5 billion range.
