A federal agency says a New Jersey insurance company will pay $110,000 to settle allegations of racial discrimination at its Milwaukee office.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced the agreement on May 4.
The EEOC says it sued Federal Insurance Co., which does business as Warren, N.J.,-based Chubb & Son.
The agency says it reached the settlement with Chubb ahead of mediation, and that a judge approved the agreement on Tuesday
The EEOC alleged that Chubb refused to promote a Hmong (MUNG’) employee in 2006 because of her race. The EEOC says the woman filed a complaint, then suffered retaliation for that by being denied a second promotion the following year.
The woman will receive $110,000 in back pay and damages.
A message left with a Chubb spokeswoman was not immediately returned.
