The Iowa Department of Economic Development is encouraging businesses affected by flooding or natural disasters to sign up for recovery assistance.
The agency said that only a handful of eligible Iowa businesses have applied for assistance through the Iowans Helping Iowans program. State officials say they’ve awarded just $265,000 of the up to $7.5 million that is available. That money has gone to two businesses in Ames, two in Colfax, one in Des Moines, one in Oelwein and one in Monticello.
State economic development director Bret Mills says the agency wants to make sure affected businesses take advantage of the available assistance. Businesses in 34 counties are eligible.
