Cincinnati, Ohio-based American Empire Surplus Lines Insurance Company (AESLIC) has named Frederick J. Woebse president and chief operating officer. He succeeds Robert Nelson, who was named chairman and chief executive officer, until the time of Nelson’s retirement in July 2010.
Woebse joined AESLIC, a member of the Great American Insurance Group, in 1989 and has served as chief underwriting officer since February 2002.
He began his insurance career with the Continental Insurance Companies in Glens Falls, New York and subsequently transferred to New York City, where he also worked for the Reinsurance Department of Allstate and Swiss Re. Prior to moving to Cincinnati, Woebse spent nine years in Hartford with Constitution State Management Company, a subsidiary of The Travelers, underwriting casualty facultative reinsurance.
