After Missouri’s youngest drivers were told to quit sending cell phone text messages, lawmakers are going after everybody else.

Several lawmakers have filed bills for the 2010 legislative session that starts Jan. 6 to ban all motorists from sending text messages while they are driving. Last year, those 21 years old and younger were barred from sending messages.

Drivers distracted by their telephones and other communications devices has gained notoriety in the last year. More than half the states by 2010 will bar some drivers from sending text messages, and 18 will ban all drivers.

Supporters of bills expanding Missouri’s texting restrictions contend that texting while driving is so dangerous that no one should be doing it.
