The state of Michigan says it spent about $170,000 to repair a busy stretch of Interstate 75, which reopened less than five days after a fiery tanker crash caused an overpass to melt and collapse.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says it will take about $2 million and at least four more months to rebuild the bridge. The agency says it will work with Attorney General Mike Cox to recover the cost, probably from insurers.
State police say a car driver caused last Wednesday’s wreck. The Detroit Free Press says investigators are turning their report over to Oakland County prosecutors.
Southbound I-75 reopened Sunday and northbound I-75 on Monday.
A National Transportation Safety Board team left the scene Monday.
