Michigan Republicans are again trying to stop Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s administration from instituting mandatory workplace ergonomics rules in the state.
The Democratic governor has previously vetoed similar GOP-backed legislation to block the rules.
Earlier this week, a Senate panel sent to the full Senate a bill aimed at preventing rules from taking effect. The rules are still being worked on by the Granholm administration.
Business groups say mandatory ergonomics training and reporting would raise the cost of doing business at a time employers are struggling.
California is the only state with its own ergonomics rules.
Supporters of Michigan standards argue that ergonomics helps workers.
Ergonomics aims to limit injuries caused by heavy lifting, repetitive motion and awkward work positions.
