The board of directors of Iowa Mutual Insurance Company recently announced that it had elected Thomas R. Cole, president effective July 1, 2008. Iowa Mutual and its subsidiary, Iowa American Mutual Insurance Company, are affiliates of The Motorists Insurance Group based in Columbus, Ohio.
Cole succeeds Susan E. Haack, who will become assistant secretary of the companies in The Motorists Insurance Group. She will succeed Thomas C. Ogg, as secretary of these companies upon Ogg’s retirement in 2009.
Cole is currently senior vice president of Marketing and Claims at Iowa Mutual. He began his career with Motorists Mutual Insurance Company, the lead organization in the group, in 1977 as a claims adjuster. He has held several positions within the company, including claims branch manager in Cincinnati and Akron, claims west zone manager, and marketing zone sales manager.
The Ohio native was named to his current position in 2003.
Haack began her career with Iowa Mutual as an accounting clerk in 1990 and has held the positions of vice president of Accounting, senior vice president and executive vice president.
The Motorists Insurance Group is composed of nine property and casualty, life and brokerage companies that operate in 35 states.
