Just as the season is kicking off, lawmakers in Sioux City, Iowa plan to discuss just how much insurance coverage outdoor circus and carnival promoters must have to set up merry-go-rounds within the city.
Last year, the City Council increased the liability insurance required by the promoters to $3 million. But, a problem arose when an annual carnival sponsored by Hy-Vee Inc. couldn’t get the higher amount of coverage.
Don Trometer, the city’s risk manager, says the council will discuss lowering the amount to $2 million.
Organizers say the Hy-Vee-backed carnival will go on. It will be held at the end of this month at Sioux City’s Tyson Events Center.
