Nebraska state lawmakers signed off on a nearly $10 million settlement between the state and the mother of a man injured in a traffic accident ago nine years ago.
The Legislature gave first-round approval to paying that and other claims. The $10 million will come from the Department of Roads operating fund and go to Gail Fickle so she can take care of her son. Jacob Wagner has brain damage and other impairments following an accident near Schuyler.
Courts ruled the state failed to repair the signal at a highway intersection despite complaints it was malfunctioning.
Two traffic signals — one for southbound traffic, the other for westbound — each flashed green lights before Wagner’s car was struck by a semitrailer.
