A judge has awarded civil damages of more than $881,000 in the case of a teenage driver involved in a Ransom County crash that killed another teenager two years ago.
Southeast District Judge Daniel Narum ruled that Dillon Kron of Enderlin and his parents failed to carry liability insurance on the pickup truck Kron was driving when it collided with another pickup in May 2006. Thirteen-year-old Joseph Wayman of Sheldon was killed.
Wayman was a passenger in a truck driven by his grandfather, Larry. Larry Wayman was injured in the crash.
A Highway Patrol investigation indicated Kron, who was 16 at the time, had failed to yield at an intersection. Kron later pleaded guilty to two charges of driving without liability insurance.
Narum awarded the $881,000 judgment in the wrongful death lawsuit to Larry Wayman, who was Joseph’s legal guardian. The amount includes $250,000 in punitive damages
