South Dakota and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will undertake a preliminary damage assessment in a dozen South Dakota counties affected by last weekend’s tornadoes and flooding.
Not every home or business will be inspected. The state will use the information to determine whether to ask for a presidential disaster declaration.
The four inspection teams will include representatives from local agencies, the state, FEMA and the Small Business Administration.
The teams will start their work Saturday and hope to be done next week, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
Inspections will be made in Aurora, Beadle, Brown, Clark, Davison, Hanson, Hutchinson, Jerauld, Miner, Sanborn, Spink and Yankton counties.
