A North Dakota woman whose 8-month-old son was found wedged on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat of her car has pleaded not guilty to a charge of abuse or neglect of a child.
Sarah Dawn Gwin, 25, of Mandan, also pleaded not guilty in South Central District Court in Bismarck to charges of drunken driving with a minor present, and driving without liability insurance.
Mandan police said a detective driving home from an investigation in August saw a car traveling erratically, weaving in and out of lanes and failing to stop at stop signs.
It took two patrol cars to box in and stop the vehicle, police said. Gwin was arrested after failing sobriety tests.
The baby was found face down on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat. Police said the child’s torso was wedged between a large liquid detergent bottle, the front driver’s seat backrest and the center console armrest.
Gwin is being held at the Morton County Correctional Center on a $5,000 cash bond.
