Charles “Sandy” Blunt has accepted an offer to become the new executive director/CEO of , the group announced. Blunt expects to be on the job no later than May 3.
Prior to accepting this position, Blunt was the chief operations officer and assistant administrator for the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC). BWC is the largest exclusive state-fund workers’ compensation system in the United States and the fifth largest underwriter of workers’ compensation insurance in the country. Blunt had worked for BWC in various capacities over the last eight years.
Blunt has formulated a 90-day plan for the transition and plans to “spend the majority of time meeting with the agency’s staff members and stakeholders to listen and learn about the organization.”
Blunt was selected from a field of 30 candidates after an extensive nationwide search. WSI had offered the position to Thomas Cleary, the former COO of the Maryland Injured Workers Fund.
