Fire officials said a four alarm blaze tore through a home under renovation in South Boston and caused an estimated $1 million in damage.
Commissioner Joseph Finn said the fire at the East 4th Street property broke out at about 10:30 p.m. Monday. Flames quickly spread through the three story brownstone, and firefighters arrived on scene to find the building fully engulfed. Fire crews knocked down the blaze by about 11:00 p.m. Approximately five neighbors were displaced, and it is unknown when they will be allowed to return to their homes.
Finn said no one was living in the home at the time of the fire because of the renovation work. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire and where it originated remain under investigation.
