Donegal Group Inc. in Marietta, Pennsylvania, announced on Aug. 29 that its chief executive officer, Donald H. Nikolaus, will be on a temporary medical leave of absence.
The board has named Donegal Group’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Kevin G. Burke to serve as acting CEO during Nikolaus’ recovery period. The company did not provide any additional information concerning Nikolaus’ medical condition.
Donegal Group said Nikolaus will continue to serve as president and CEO of Donegal Mutual Insurance Company, which has approximately 65 percent of the total voting power of Donegal Group’s common stock. Nikolaus will also continue in his other Donegal positions while he recovers, according to the announcement.
“I am committed to remain as active as I can be in our business as my health permits and plan to return at the conclusion of my medical leave,” Nikolaus said in a statement. “I am confident that Kevin Burke and the other members of our experienced management team will successfully execute our strategic business plans.”
