Massachusetts regulators are preparing to hold public hearings in Springfield and East Longmeadow as they investigate how utility companies responded to the October snowstorm that knocked out power to thousands for days.
The Department of Public Utilities hearings are scheduled for Monday, Dec. 5. They are the first in a series of eight meetings to gather public comments on how National Grid, Western Massachusetts Electric Company and NStar prepared for the storm and restored power to homes and businesses.
Regulators opened an investigation Nov. 8 after customers and municipal authorities complained about how utilities dealt with the Oct. 28 storm. The probe will look into whether utilities got timely information to the public and identify practices the companies might improve.
