The American Insurance Association announced that it supports the efforts of the Maine Legislature’s Business Research and Economic Development Committee to implement a statewide building code.
“Uniform statewide building codes often lower costs and improve the quality of construction,” stated Paul Moran, AIA vice president, northeast region. “These improvements increase safety and have a significant potential to reduce both routine and catastrophic property losses.”
The AIA noted that “although the proposed code would be voluntary it would promote better training and understanding of the code’s provisions by developers, builders, subcontractors, materials manufacturers and building inspectors,” and urged the legislature to adopt it.
