Seventeen individuals have been charged with bilking the New York Insurance Fund and other carriers of over $130,000 in workers’ comp benefits by falsely claiming they were disabled, said New York Superintendent of Insurance, Neil D. Levin. He was joined by Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, officials of the New York State Insurance Fund and the Workers’ Compensation Board’s Inspector General’s Office.
Eleven of those charged were arrested last week and the remaining defendants are expected to surrender early this week.
Those arrested include: Christopher Anthony Greco, 28, Brooklyn; Carlos Fajardo, 34, Corona; Jeff Rosenzweig, 44, Forest Hills; Ruben Rogers, 43, Queens Village; Angelo Cordero, 25, Fresh Meadows; Hector Arias, Astoria; Asghar Khan, 34, Ridgewood; Kwawaja Abdul Qayum, 48, Flushing; Jorge Vilches, 54, Glendale; Suhail Sami, 50, Astoria; and Irinia Puglisi, 46, Forest Hills. The remaining six individuals, whose fraud amounted to over $47,000, will be arrested this week.
