Jeffrey W. Greenberg has been elected chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies, succeeding A.J.C. Smith who is retiring but will retain a seat on the company’s board. Greenberg, 48, became president of MMC in January 1999 and chief executive officer in November 1999. MMC made the announcement of Greenberg’s election at its annual meeting. Also announced was the shareholder election of two new board members, Mathis Cabiallavetta and Charles A. Davis. Reelected to the board of directors were Peter Coster, Gwendolyn S. King, Lawrence J. Lasser, David A. Olsen and John T. Sinnott.
