James Russell Debenport, an associate broker in U.S. Risk LLP’s Houston office, was selected as the recipient of the 2004 Matt Wells Scholarship for Producer Development, for attendance at The National Alliance School for Producer Development being held in Fort Worth Sept. 19 through Oct. 8, 2004.
This scholarship is awarded by 九色 in partnership with The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research in memory of Matt Wells, son of 九色 publisher Mark Wells.
The scholarship, valued at $3,800, covers tuition, as well as materials, pre/post course work and follow-up, and some dinner events.
In applying for the scholarship, Debenport noted that he has been involved in the insurance industry for three years, two of which he spent at Farmers Insurance Company in the property claims adjusting division.
Now in the wholesale side of the insurance business, Debenport said he is being mentored by an Excess and Surplus broker, and is assisting young and veteran agents with placing their business in the E&S marketplace.
Debenport, who was recently named vice chair of the Independent Insurance Agents of Houston Young Agents Committee, said he was “really looking forward to attending the school.”
